The Pythagorean Theorem

In a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. This is written as:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Here, c is the hypotenuse, and a, b are the other two sides.

Example

If a = 3 and b = 4, then:

3^2 + 4^2 = 9 + 16 = 25 Rightarrow c = 5

This is one of the most famous results in mathematics, used widely in geometry, physics, and engineering.
